A Flash Flood

We just had a little flash flood here a couple of hours ago. Enormous amount of rain for 15 minutes. Our street completely flooded again because I am down on the end of lighthouse road before it goes up again. All the water from the bowling green and both top of the road from the Lookout and corner of Seapoint Road the water comes down the street and only a small drain right in front of my garage.

Two years ago the women across the road had her house flooded because all the water has nowhere to go because the drains are too small. The last time it happened it took 6 months to repair her house and she had to move out. Her house has been protected with sandbags for the last two years since the last flood so they again protected her house today.

The water again was almost right on top of the sandbags, about a metre high came the water in 10 minutes. We both were out there in the rain keeping the drains clear. Five minutes later all the water was gone and the rain stopped. A big mess again of silt, rocks and leaves. If this rain would have gone say for an hour, Lorna's house would have flooded again.

We got a big hose here at the bowling club so 30 minutes later the road was clean again. I love cleaning the road with this powerful big hose from the club. It has a pump so it's like a fire hose almost.

Anyway, this time I took pictures of the whole scenario and a picture of Lorna Smith the neighbour standing knee deep in water clearing drains again in from of her house in front of the sand bags, what a classic picture or moment in time.
